Wire diameter, coil diameter, length and wind direction are measured to match the correct replacement.

Springs do the lifting; the opener only guides the door. When a spring breaks you usually hear it — a single loud bang from the garage — and afterwards the door feels impossibly heavy or will not lift at all.
Spring work is the highest-tension job on a garage door and is not a DIY repair. We measure wire size, inside diameter and length, replace springs in matched pairs where appropriate, wind them to the actual weight of your door and re-check balance through the full travel.
How It Works

Remaining tension is released with winding bars and the old spring and hardware are removed.
New springs are installed, wound to the door weight and the drums and cables are reset evenly.
The door is tested off the opener to confirm it holds mid-travel, then opener force is reset.

On a two-spring door, replacing both is usually the sensible choice: they have cycled the same number of times, so the second failure often follows the first closely.
A wound torsion spring stores enough energy to cause serious injury, and it needs proper winding bars, correct measurement and controlled release. This is a job for a technician.
Springs are rated in cycles rather than years, so a household that opens the door six times a day wears springs faster than one that opens it twice. Balance checks during maintenance give early warning.
